Post code 3030 takes out top crim spot, 3020 a close second

3030 takes first position in total number of criminal offences recorded, according to Victoria Police data. Derrimut, Point Cook, Werribee, Werribee South and regional Cocoroc and Quandong are all listed in the 3030 post code and racked up a total of 5821 criminal offences recorded.

Runner up goes to 3020 which includes Albion, Sunshine, Sunshine North and Sunshine West with a total of 5648 criminal offences recorded.

Rounding off the top three is 3029 - Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Truganina with a total of 5317 offences recorded.

Fourth spot goes to 3021 - Albanvale, Kealba, Kings Park and St Albans with 4274 nudging out 3023 which includes Burnside, Cairnlea, Caroline Springs, Deer Park and Ravenhall with 4232 offences recorded.

The list, of course, does not distinguish between serious and petty crime and is based on a total figure, not a per capita figure. Basically, a post code covering a larger population is bound to have a higher amount of offences than a post code that covers a much smaller population. So if you are shocked at your areas figure, don't worry, it does not necessarily mean it is one of the most dangerous. That title (based on serious crime and broken down per capita) will be awarded to a suburb in our next article. Can you guess who it will be?

Check the stats for your post code in the image below.

Courtesy of the Department of Planning and Community Development
The massive new suburb temporarily called "East Werribee" (pending winner of state government name competition) is planned to be a CBD located between Melbourne and Geelong. East Werribee will be 750 hectares in size and employ 60,000 people. The new suburb will be situated 25km from Melbourne and 40km from Geelong.

The suburb will have a mix of residential and commercial spaces centered around a 70 hectare waterway network and is situated between Werribee to the west and Point Cook to the east.

East Werribee will be Melbourne's largest infill development site and "will be the largest integrated business and residential development of government owned land in Victoria since Docklands", says the Department of Planning and Community Development.

7,000 homes are expected to be built to house 20,000 people medium and high density housing. Work on the $40 million diamond freeway interchange is expected to begin in 2014 and another $32 million of arterial road upgrades are expected.

West Werribee to Deer Park via Wyndham Vale and Tarneit stations

Regional Rail Link
Two new stations at Wyndham Vale and Tarneit equipped with lifts, ramps and stairs will spring up in the near future as part of the governments Regional Rail Link project.

The new stations will be situated on the new Werribee to Deer Park line.

The new 26 kilometre track from Deer Park to West Werribee Junction will include no new level crossings and instead come with 12 road over rail bridges. Four major structures will be constructed at Werribee River, Lollipop Creek, Skeleton Creek and Davis Creek. Plans also foresee the extension of Christies Road, and construction of Armstrong Road.

The project is at full speed with the development of existing stations in advanced stages. The existing stations being redeveloped include Footscray, West Footscray, Tottenham and Sunshine. The Regional Rail Link foresees a growth in capacity to handle up to 9000 more passengers during peak times and allow for a much improved rail service from the growing western suburbs and Geelong.

The cost of the project is set at 4.3 billion dollars with the federal government accounting for 3.2 billion and the state government accounting for 1.1 billion.
