East-West Link

East-West Link

The East-West Link is an 18km long motorway connecting the Western Ring Road to the Eastern Freeway.

Taken from http://www.linkingmelbourne.vic.gov.au

"The East West Link has the potential to provide significant travel, economic, business, employment and community benefits for Melbourne and Victoria. It would close the gaps between the major metropolitan freeways to the east, west and north and provide a much needed alternative to the Monash-West Gate freeways, including the West Gate Bridge."

They say the project benefits include the following:

-Improve our cross city connections

-Reduce over reliance on the M1

-Reduce congestion

-Improve connectivity

-Improve freight efficiency

-Enhance liveability

-Contribute to urban and economic development

-Enhance public transport

The East-West Link is currently being supported by the Victorian Government and Federal opposition Liberals.

According to the State Government, the first section to be constructed will be the eastern section while the final section will be the western section.

Do you think this will have a good enough impact on traffic problems in the West? Should the first section to be completed be the western section? Will this be a better or worse alternative to the Melbourne Metro rail project>?
